Day 2 of the 2010 TargetLine Cup got under way smoothly with the rain holding off for just overcast skies. Later in the day the clouds began to break up a bit and we saw a little sun and temps rise. I was scheduled to shoot the Green main in the morning flight. Green MONSTER was a better word for it.
Steve Schultz threw fast and long birds and didn’t let up on any but station 2. He has described it as one of his best sets and it was a Grind House all the way. I never carry anything more than a LM but I happened to have a Muller U4 (X-Full) on test the past few weeks and it got a work out. I pulled it out no less than four times to cope with some of the distant edgy birds. When I was on, it obliterated them. Unfortunately for me I shot most of the day with a tape measure on my barrel. It wasn’t until the last four or five stands that I remembered how to shoot. I’m afraid I left the door open in my class but I have White main to shoot tomorrow and indications are it’s a bit higher in the scoring department. Green definitely took it’s pound of flesh with many top guns shooting in the mid-low 80′s.
I shot FITASC P1 and P2 in the afternoon and found it to be sublime. Schultz really excels at sets for the game, much more so than his ESP sets in my opinion. Again though, I left a bit of a crack in the door but this ones much smaller. Tomorrow is the day to bring the game. You’ve got to be aggressive and athletic at these TargetLine shoots or you might as well pack it in.
As far as the top guns, Brandon Powell set the mark on White main with a 95, John Kruger with nerves of steel managed a 92 on Green main. Tricia Kocurek and Deeann Massey set equal 76′s in Ladies on White and Green respectively. In Juniors Theo Ribs set the mark on White with an 88 and Drew Benson an 84 on Green. Sub Jr. Zach Charbula shot an incredible 91 on White. In FITASC of the shooters to complete the 100 targets so far Tony Rivera has the mark on 81.
