Gun control is a hideous thing. Just received this communication from FITASC HQ this morning. The bottom line is if you shoot a semi for sporting and want to shoot in Australia you better bring an O/U. The Australian government has chosen NOT to allow competitors to import semi-automatic shotguns for the world FITASC event. I’ll refrain from saying anything too negative about Australia and gun control because the people there are all too aware of what has happened. U.S. shooters lets not let this happen too us! Non Australian shooters can cancel out of the event and receive a refund if they do so by September 7th, 2009. Full text of the communication follows:
Dear friend shooters,
You have entered the World Sporting championship which takes place in Warrnambool, Australia from November 19th to 22nd, 2009 and we congratulate you for your participation!
Due to a decision of the Australian Government, competitors in the 2009 FITASC Sporting World Championships will not be allowed to import Semi-Automatic Shotguns into Australia. This decision was received on 12th August 2009 from The Australian Minister for Home Affairs.
Non Australian competitors are reminded that they must complete two applications for entry of themselves and their firearms into Australia:
1 INTERNATIONAL VISITORS FIREARMS PERMIT This form is available on the FITASC Sporting World Championships website under GUNS & AMMO. It must be sent either by fax or by email direct to:

They must be forwarded at least 6 weeks prior to the competition to allow for processing, so before October 1st 2009.
We inform you that any entry cancellation of non Australian shooters, received at Fitasc by September 7th, owing to the banning from importing semi-automatic shotguns, will be entitled to a total refund of the entry. Yours in sport. Fitasc Administration
